Happy Halloween!

Hope you guys all get your freak on tonight! :)

Personally, I dressed up last night for a halloween games' night with friends and managed to put together a last minute pirate costume, which turned out pretty good! I'll post some pictures next time :)

Tonight, however, I'm having a horror movie marathon with the same bunch of friends and so far we've picked the Descent and the Grudge!! Yes, I know, I am probably going to die of a heart attack before midnight, but since I've already seen both movies, hopefully I won't be so frightened the second time round.... *crosses fingers*

Otherwise I just watched this week's Supernatural epiosde and loved it! I loved how they dealt with Bobby's suicidal depression and old man!Dean was brilliant! It was fun to see him deal with the effects of old age. Oh and that Patrick dude was hot as hell, Irish accents are just too damn sexy! :D But one question still remains after watching the episode... how did Sam win that poker game?

I've been thinking of taking part in NaNoWriMo this year and I've started planning in detail a non-fiction novel that's been running around in my head for ages now, but now that I check my weekly schedule for November, it might not be the best idea. I've started learning Japanese after unsuccessfully teaching myself. I've found free weekly lessons in Paris along with a private Japanese teacher who lives nearby and doesn't have extortionate hourly rates. It's great, I really love the language and am doing it to hopefully go visit Japan next April for my birthday :) So if anyone speaks/writes Japanese, I would love to hear from you!

Well, have a great Halloween night everybody wherever you are and if you're wearing an awesome costume this year, post some pics! Halloween isn't really celebrated over in France, but it's still a good excuse for a lot of people to get dressed up and have fun! :D

Is it Sunday night already?

Damn, is the weekend over already?

Anyone else feel like the weekend has flown by and the list of 'things to do' sadly remains unchecked...?

Well it's not like I haven't done anything at all, but I still haven't got around to studying, writing or doing the 100 other things planned for the weekend. I just can't seem to stay focused on anything. Last week pretty much zapped all the energy out of my body and I spent two days walking around like a zombie....

Here are the things I did get done - catch up on tv shows! I watched the premiere of a whole bunch of new shows Friday night and out of all of them, the few that piqued my interest were The Vampire Diaries (still!), the Beautiful Life (but apparently that's cancelled already!), Flashforward, Cougar Town and Eastwick (recced by canadianturtle). Who else is watching these shows?

The medieval site dig was amazing btw! The anthropologist was a a**hole though, who obviously didn't want to be there and who blatantly didn't want to answer my questions either. I still got to learn loads from digging some human burials, which was great experience for me, although 4 days was far too short :(

*sigh* I need another vacation...

Lots to squee about!

Just a general post about all the things that make me squee! :D

- the Fall season is starting again soon! Supernatural season 5 starts in a couple of weeks and I cannot wait to see the first episode. For anyone who hasn't seen the new promo for S5 yet, check it out!

<lj-embed id="14" />

- dmhgficexchange is starting up again and sign ups start next week apparently. I wrote two fics for the sign-up last round and I'm really pumped about participating again! :)

- Infinitus infinitus2010, the 2010 HP convention registration is open and I am sorely tempted to register as I will do everything this time round to attend. I've missed too many US hp conventions and this one will take place in Florida alongside the opening of the HP theme park and it sounds amazing!! Anyone else planning to go yet?

- Also, I talked to my friend about wanting to shape up without having to pay a fortune to attend a gym and he suggested I try out workout videos! He passed me a bunch of them including the Pump It Up dance workout which the music video Call On Me is based off! It's hilarious, but it looks fun and if it does the job, then I'm happy :D

Here's a clip from it:

<lj-embed id="15" />

All the workouts last about an hour so if I try one out 3x a week, I'm guessing that should start making a difference... right? I'll keep you guys posted about how that goes :)

If anyone has tried video workouts before and has some good recommendations, I'm all ears!

- Oooh and lastly I put my pics from work in a filtered post so if anyone who was interested didn't get to see them, just ask.

HWY - chapter 15!!

It's been months since I've updated Here Without You and I'm actually proud that I haven't dropped this fic completely!

Title: Here Without You
Author: hathorx
Rating: M
Summary: Sequel! 3 years after defeating Voldemort, Hermione and Draco meet again. Hermione now has to cope in a world run by Malfoy Inc. Whereas Abigail and Ron have joined the Order, she battles the remaining Death Eaters in court. Dark fic, D/Hr, HP/OC

Chapter 15 is finally up, it's called "Slytherin"... and it's nearly 8,000 words!!

In other news, I went to London last weekend...

In other news...

I had booked train tickets to London to see Michael Jackson at the O2 last Thursday... and instead of cancelling I decided to go spend a long weekend visiting friends and just acting like a tourist! I visited the British Museum for the umpteenth time. I looked at the permanent Japanese exhibition as well as the Jade exhibition, sooo pretty! I went to Harrods to gush at all the food and ended up buying coffee in a pretty Harrods tin as well as a bunch of books from the Waterstones stand, lol!

I've taken another 3 days off work to rest up this week and it was incredible to stay in bed this morning and not get up at 6am! I have yet to post pictures from the dig (which will have a special filter just to be on the safe side...) so if you're interested, let me know and I'll add you to the filter!

Also, who else has seen the teaser trailers for these exciting new Fall tv shows....?!!!

Spartacus:

<lj-embed id="10" />

Flash Forward (looks like the new Lost... even has Penny):

<lj-embed id="11" />

And of course... V! I used to love this series as a kid:

<lj-embed id="12" />

Harry Potter meme!

Snagged from bunney !

The Books in Order from Favorite to Least Favorite:

Half-Blood Prince
Order of the Phoenix
Deathly Hallows
Goblet of Fire
Prisoner of Azkaban
Sorcerer's Stone
Chamber of Secrets

Number of Times You Have Read the Series: All 7 books, probably only twice, but separately I know I've read GoF, OotP and HBP many many times. I have yet to get my head around reading Deathly Hallows a second time!

Favorite Chapter from Your Favorite Book: HBP - hmmm, "The Seer Overhead" maybe. It has everything from Harry and Ginny snuggling, Hermione coming up with theories about the HBP, Malfoy and Harry confronting Dumbledore about Snape about his parent's death and Dumbledore asking to forgive him. I thought it was one of the most powerful and touching scenes in the book.

Five Favorite Characters: nothing special, just all the kids really - Draco Malfoy, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley

Three Least Favorite Characters: Uncle Vernon, Hagrid and Umbridge (I simply loathe her while reading OotP).

Favorite Member of the Trio: Either Harry or Hermione, I really can't choose between the two.

Three Favorite Magical Creatures: Thestrals, dragons and phoenix

Favorite Family: The Malfoys

Favorite Villain: Bellatrix Lestrange

Favorite Death Eater: Bellatrix Lestrange

Favorite Non-Hogwarts Magical Building: St Mungo's

Favorite Diagon Alley Location: Weasley's Wizard Wheezes

Three Favorite Spells: Expelliarmus, Alohomora (I like saying it) and Aguamenti.

Three Favorite Potions: Amortentia, Felix Felicis and Draught of Living Death (the name just sounds so cool!)

Favorite Unforgivable Curse: Crucio

Favorite Department of Mysteries Room: The Hall of Prophecy

Biggest Surprise: Snape killing Dumbledore - I was completely absorbed in the book when first reading it and never once thought how it would ultimately end.

Biggest Letdown: Hermione and Ron not getting together earlier. We had to wait till the end of book 7 when we all saw it coming!

Favorite Mode of Transportation: Apparition

Favorite Weasley: Ron Weasley

Favorite Order Member: Sirius Black

Favorite pet: Hedwig

One Character You’d Bring Back to Life: Fred Weasley

Moment That Will Always Make You Cry: Harry digging Dobby's grave.

Favorite Hogwarts Room: The Room of Requirement

Favorite Class: Defense Against the Dark Arts

Favorite Teacher: Professor McGonagall

Favorite DADA teacher: Professor Lupin

Least Favorite Teacher: Dolores Umbridge

Favorite Non-Human Hogwarts Resident: Dobby

Favorite Hogsmeade Location: Three Broomsticks

Favorite Triwizard Champion: Harry Potter

Favorite Triwizard Task: The one with the dragons

Which Character You’d Ask to the Yule Ball: Draco Malfoy

Which Character You’d Like to Use a Love Potion On: Pff, probably Draco again.
I ♥ J-pop!

So anyone ever listened to Japanese music before? And by Japanese I mean what they call J-pop or Japanese pop, not just the classical music you find on anime soundtracks...

I've been listening to Ikimono Gakari all day which have some really great songs and a really talented vocalist. There are a few other bands I like, but I thought I'd let you guys check out of my favourite :-D

<lj-embed id="9" />

Otherwise I hope everyone's week is going okay! I'm currently suffering from the heat wave above Paris at the moment but hopefully it'll be over by tomorrow. Also since some of you have asked, I'll try to post some photos from work very soon!

Merry Christmas!

Just a quick post to wish everyone who celebrates it:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I hope you have a wonderful time with your family, friends and loved ones. I'm spending Christmas with my family as usual, although my grandmother is here with us this week. I've always loved Christmas and after such a long, tiring and quite depressing year, I'm looking forward to the celebrations and I will be welcoming 2009 with my arms wide open! :D

I'll be back to write a longer post soon. Happy holidays everyone!

Dramione fics!

Just a quick post to mention the couple of fics I wrote for dmhgficexchange. Authors have been revealed for a week now, but I've only just had time to post about it.

In both cases, the fics were written based on a song and they're both one-shots. I was a pinch hitter for the second fic and I think was actually more inspired than for the first one I wrote. The first fic is about Draco and Hermione in a secret relationship while the second fic is less about love and more about snark!

Thanks to everyone who commented during the exchange! :D

Faith (PG-13)

So Much to Lose, So Much to Gain (R)

And completely off-topic, my friend told me the new Wolverine movie trailer was on youtube earlier today and I'm so psyched!! You guys can check it out here - it looks AWESOME!!!

A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin

I feel much better! All traces of sore throat and cold are gone and I've been happily staying at home by the chimney avoiding the heavy snowfall outside. I LOVE snow, but it never really lasts around here - it's not cold enough yet. Has it been snowing in England too?

I've finally sent off my last 3 Christmas cards so if you haven't received a card from me already, it should reach you within a week or so. I've received two cards so far from lux_astraea and scent_of_autumn, which were great so thank you so much guys!! :D

I have to say, I love reading fantasy books. I read quite a variety of book genres, but fantasy is my personal favourite and when I tell people about it, I often heard A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's epic fantasy series mentioned as their favourite. I'd never got round to reading it before, but I picked it up at the local library (in French) and liked it so much that I bought the first two books on Amazon and just had to tell you guys about it!

So I recently finished reading A Game of Thrones, the first in the series (there are 7 in total) and I was thrilled! No spoiling here, only an overall review...

The books are set in a Middle Ages type world of kings, nobles, political intrigue and supernatural. It focuses mostly on the Stark family, the Lords of the North of the Seven Kingdoms and how the father, Ned, leaves to help the king reign and is caught up in a web of plots concerning the throne and his feud with the Lannister family. One of the strengths of the book is that it has multiple viewpoints, mostly Ned and his children, which each have their own story to tell and each have their own direwolf. And if you think this book is the classic fantasy series with the good guy beating evil against all odds and where the villains aren't too bright, then think again!!

The author does a great job of giving us lots of conflict and intrigue as well as multilayered plotting and GREAT female characters! The writing is good, with lots of character development and great descriptions. I also love the world he's created which if you're a fan of medieval history/legends like me, you'll also enjoy and even more since there is very little magic in the books keeping the whole world very believable. I personally loved the direwolves as I'm always a sucker for animals in books... Anyway, I highly recommend the first book as it also has just the right amount of love, sex and swearing! :D

I hope I've convinced fantasy readers to give this book a chance if they haven't already and to those who've read it - do let me know what you thought! I'm currently reading the second book (A Clash of Kings) and taking my time since book 5 won't be released till next year... The wait actually makes me feel like it's the HP series all over again!!

Also, Amazon's recently released their Best Books 2008 series. If you're looking to buy fantasy books for the holiday season, here's Amazon's Best SciFi/Fantasy Books 2008

It features both the Editors' Picks and the Customers' Favourites of 2008.

So there's my review. At the moment, I'm reading The Constant Gardener by John Le Carré, which is captivating and I'll then be finishing A Clash of Kings.

What are you guys currently reading? Any recs?

Is it Christmas already?!!

*sniff* *sniff*

I have a cold. And a sore throat. It's my own fault because I went to a friend's b-day party Saturday night and spent most of the time outside on the balcony either smoking or chatting (and wearing only a strappy top) --> hence I'm now sick! :(

I hadn't smoked in months, not since my dissertation that dealt with the effects of smoking on teeth, but I simply couldn't resist a couple of ciggies....

Anyway, I'm now in bed, wrapped in a blanket and sipping cough syrup. I also feel exhausted because my mother decided to drag me around the local shopping centre all day to buy Christmas presents. Since when has it become a precaution to buy Christmas presents 3 weeks in advance and still have to deal with large crowds?!!

Job-wise: still nuthin'! Both jobs I was hoping to hear back from haven't contacted me so I'm starting to despair a little... There's no way I'll find anything now until January, no new jobs have been posted in days.

In other news:

- For everyone who asked for a holiday card and lives in the US, I sent your cards out last week so hopefully they should reach you soon. I'm not sure how long mail takes nowadays between US-Europe... For my European flist, I'm sending yours out tomorrow :)
- For all Dramione fans, the fourth round of the dramione_awards has begun and nominations are open!! You can check out details here and pimp your eligible one-shots here or to me! I've yet to nominate fics...
- I finally watched Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog and thought it was pretty good. Nathan Fillion is hilarious as the vain superhero and I loved Neil Patrick Harris. He's great and I've recently started watching How I Met Your Mother as well, which is an awesome show! How come no one mentioned this to me before?! :D
- TV holiday break is killing me... no more Supernatural! :( Thank God, Gossip Girl and Heroes aired this week! I'm off to watch them now...

Hey, this was posted today and it shows lots more footage of the movie!! :D

If you don't want to be spoiled, ignore this post!

<lj-embed id="8" />

I love the scene when Harry jokes about being the Chosen One - Dan is actually quite funny then! :) There's also a quick glimpse of Draco staring into the mirror... I hope the duel scene between him and Harry was kept in the script!

Well, I still can't believe we have to wait until July before it's released!!!
Draco Malfoy is a jerk!

I was in London this past weekend with my parents, picking up the rest of my stuff from various friends' flats. It was pretty tiring and the drive back was so looong! Since I got back I've been busy sorting, cleaning and finding space for my stuff, which was a relief as I got all my books again along with my notebooks I use for writing, but also just an accumulation of random crap I kept throughout the past year.

Anyway, two things today...

1) My one-shot for elyaeru is finally here!

Title: Draco Malfoy is a jerk!
Author: hathorx
Rating: PG
Summary: Draco and Hermione making out in a closet... but are they alone? Drabble turned one-shot for elyaeru, who gave me the prompt 'skeleton'! Enjoy :D

Draco Malfoy is a Jerk!

Hermione took a deep breath and turned around the corner. Although it was lunchtime, a handful of students still roamed the corridors on their way to the library or back to their dorms.

Her fingers tugging at the sleeves of her grey sweater, she carried on walking down the corridor, peeking behind her every so often to make sure she was alone. Slowing down as she reached the first classroom door on her right, she looked up around her once more, before grasping the doorknob of the broom closet nearby and swiftly walking inside.

Hermione shut the door behind her and stumbled around in the dark for a minute, wondering whether she should use her wand to cast a light and finally decided not to. Draco would be there soon and then it wouldn’t matter anymore whether it was dark or light.

She began to shiver from the sudden cold inside the closet and decided that next time they really should pick a more romantic, or at least more comfortable, spot to meet up in secret. Hogwarts’ broom closets were indeed notorious as rendez-vous points for couples, but they also happened to be small, damp cupboards, crammed with all sorts of junk, which were never comfortable to lean against when making out and which often smelled like cabbage and mouse faeces. Once, Draco had even dragged her inside the Christmas decorations’ closet and Hermione had spent the rest of the evening hiding in the girl’s bathroom trying to untangle multiple streaks of tinsel out of her hair.

This time, she had decided, she would tell Draco exactly what she thought of his cunning plan to meet in broom closets and that he had better come up with a more comfortable and larger meeting place and fast!

Hearing the door suddenly click, Hermione looked up and caught a glimpse of pale skin and blond hair slide in before the room was plunged back into darkness.

“Fancy meeting you here, Granger,” Draco drawled, stepping closer against her. Although Hermione could barely make out his features in the dark, she could tell that he was smiling.

“Glad to hear you’re in such a good mood,” she told him, crossing her arms over her chest. Draco, however, decided to ignore her stance and quickly pulled her hips towards him.

“I detect sarcasm in your voice, Granger,” he replied amused, prying her arms apart and lacing his fingers with hers. “Is something wrong?”

“Apart from the fact that I can’t see you and even your expensive cologne doesn’t block out the awful smell in this closet, really no – nothing at all!”

She pried her fingers away from his, determined not to let him have his way, and decided keeping her distance from him might help. After taking a couple of steps back, however, her shoe suddenly made contact with something soft and squishy.

Retreating her foot, Hermione leapt forward at the same time, bumping into Draco, who held her firmly against him and started laughing.

“Draco, I’m serious!” she hissed at him, hesitantly putting her foot down again. “I hate meeting like this – these closets are just horrible and we can’t even bloody see each other! I’ve had enough and you’d better come up with a different location tomorrow or you won’t be seeing me again for a very long time.”

That shut him up, but she could still hear him smiling in the dark and it annoyed her.

“I’m sorry, love,” he whispered, pulling her back towards him, the tip of his fingers caressing the small of her back. “I promise you next time we’ll meet somewhere else and I’ll make it up to you.”

“Promise?” she asked him, no longer resisting his pull and sliding her arms around his neck.
“Of course,” he replied, before kissing her fully on the lips.

She smiled against his lips as he kissed her eagerly, making her grasp his shoulders as she stumbled slowly backwards. The shelves at the back of the cupboard abruptly hit her neck and back, but she barely noticed as Draco deepened the kiss, sliding his hand down her thigh, whilst the other one grasped the back of her neck. Hermione moaned in response and quickly wrapped her leg around his waist, bringing him in closer and making him groan from the sudden contact. She smiled at his response, but immediately gasped in delight as she felt his cold touch against her skin at the rim of her skirt. She was so caught up in the moment that it took her a few seconds to realise that his cold hand was giving her goose bumps.

“Draco, stop it – your hand is cold,” she told him, laughing slightly.

“Sorry,” he said quickly and moved his hand away from her neck.

The cold touch was still brushing against her hip bone though causing her to giggle. “You know I’m ticklish,” she told him. “Stop it.”

However, just as she grabbed his arm to pull away his hand, she realised it was actually still caressing her thigh and not her hip bone. The cold hand brushing against her skin didn’t belong to Draco!

Her eyes opening wide, Hermione screamed in fright before darting across the closet, pushing Draco out of her way. She reached the wall and desperately began searching for the door handle and her wand.

“Damn it, Hermione! What the hell is wrong with you?” Draco asked her annoyed.

“Something was touching me in the dark!” she yelled, hitting her elbow against a shelf in her agitation to find the doorknob. “There’s someone in here!”

She suddenly heard him begin to rummage in the dark and finally locating her wand, she instantly cried, “Lumos!”

It took a few seconds for her eyes to become adjusted to the sudden light, but then she clearly distinguished Draco retrieving his own wand from his back pocket all the while jiggling a finger in his ear hole. After all, she had screamed in fright right next to him.

“Are you sure?” he asked her in disbelief. “This is a pretty small cupboard, I think we would have noticed if someone else was here.”

Hermione nodded back at him, shaking like a leaf.

“All right, hold on,” he told her, turning around to face the cluttered shelves behind him holding out his own lit wand.

“Draco, wait it’s not safe,” Hermione suddenly spoke up, realising something dangerous – or even someone – could be with them right now, ready to attack them at any instant. “We should leave.”

He kept rummaging through the mess, however, as if he hadn’t heard her.

“Draco, I’m serious,” she continued, her hand closing around the small door handle. “Stay here if you want, but I’m leaving -”

“Hang on,” Draco cut in, his voice becoming serious all of a sudden. “I think I’ve found something.”

She fell silent as her hands resumed shaking and shivers suddenly run up her spine. Something had been touching her around her waist, something cold - and now that she came to think of it, soft - had been caressing her skin! The mere thought of it made her want to run out of the closet as far away as possible, but she also felt the need to stay with Draco.

“Come here,” he told her, “I need you to cover me.”

She took a hesitant step forward, holding out her wand. “What is it? What have you found?”

“I’m not sure yet,” he continued, trying to pull something out from all the clutter before stopping all of a sudden. “Merlin, I think I found something!”

Hermione crept closer, all the while trying to distinguish in the dark what he had found among the shelves.

“Hermione!” Draco suddenly exclaimed, no longer moving. The panic in his voice caused her to freeze, her heart beating wildly against her chest.

Daring to turn her face slightly to peer over Draco’s shoulder, he suddenly whirled around at her.

“Was it THIS?”

Before her mind could register what was happening, something big and dark jumped right at her all of a sudden and its cold touch brushed against her face. Hermione screamed in horror, her arms instantly whipping up to protect her, causing her to drop her wand and to stumble backwards towards the closet door.

Frightened out of her mind, Hermione’s hands desperately searched for the door handle in the dark. A hand suddenly tried to grab her from behind and she screamed in fright once more. Her right hand finally found the cool brass handle and clasping it tight, she bolted out of the closet. Her eyes winced at the sudden bright light and before she could figure out where she was running to, her foot hit something hard on the floor, causing her to trip and fall to the ground.

Breathing hard and still shaking all over, Hermione slowly came to her senses and realised that the corridor was strangely silent. Looking up behind her, she unexpectedly noticed a line of first-year students queued outside the classroom door and all watching her with wide eyes. The last one in line had apparently dropped his book bag on the floor in front of the closet door, causing Hermione to trip. Next to him, Draco slowly emerged from the closet, holding a life-size plastic skeleton in one hand and her wand in the other.

The bastard was barely containing his laughter.

“The closet’s packed with Halloween decorations and this skeleton was stuck between the shelves. You must have -” He stopped short as soon as he noticed the first-years and immediately began to sneer at them, causing them to turn away from Hermione and suddenly hurry inside the nearby classroom.

Hermione looked back at Draco, then at the skeleton with incredulous eyes, and then proceeded to pick herself up with as much dignity as she could muster.

“Hermione, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realise you were so scared,” he told her, throwing the skeleton back in the closet quickly, looking concerned as he noticed her grazed knee.

As he took a step forward, however, Hermione gave him a cold look.

“Draco Malfoy, you are the biggest jerk I have ever met!” she shouted at him, before snatching her wand from his hand and turning away.

“Hermione, I’m really sorry,” he called after her, his face stricken with guilt as she headed towards the girl’s bathroom.

“Just leave me alone!” she shouted in return, all her fear suddenly transformed into rage.
As soon as she had turned the corner, she started running back up to her dorm, wand in hand, all the while muttering healing charms for her knee.

Damn that stupid idiot! She couldn’t believe how immature boys could be! But even more, she couldn’t believe what an idiot she had been for letting herself be so scared. It was bad enough that she had humiliated herself in front of Draco, but she had also made a fool out of herself in front of first-year students, who were supposed to look up to her.

She felt her eyes suddenly begin to prick with tears, but she refused to let herself cry. Instead, the image of Draco, looking shocked, dishevelled and clutching onto a plastic skeleton in one hand popped to the front of her mind and her face broke into a smile.

They had both been ridiculous, but that was the last time she would ever set foot in a closet again.

* * * * *

The next day, Hermione received a dozen red roses at breakfast and then Draco spent the rest of the day trying to tell her how much he was sorry. Even Harry and Ron found it strange that he repeatedly needed to speak with her in private, but everytime Draco approached her, she ignored him and walked away.

At lunch time he sent her three private owls. By dinner a box of her favourite sweets with a ‘sorry’ note and by curfew, he was hovering outside her window on his broomstick desperately knocking on her window and asking her to at least talk to him.

By the third day, his relentlessness finally dissolved the rest of her anger and she was willing to listen to him. As he appeared before her after lunch, she let him accompany her down to the pumpkin patch, on her way to Hagrid’s.

“Hermione, you’re right, I’m a jerk,” he told her, trying to keep up with her fast pace. “It was a stupid joke and it’ll never happen again, I promise!”

“And you’re sorry you made me look like a fool in front of a bunch of first-years.”

The shadow of a smile crossed his lips, but it vanished almost as soon as it appeared and instead earnest grey eyes stared back at her.

“Extremely sorry.”

“And you agree that your idea of meeting in broom closets was the worst one ever and a Slytherin should know better?”

She watched him squirm with the idea of openly admitting that he had faulted as a Slytherin and that a Gryffindor was right.

“Well, I –er, that’s to say -”

She raised an eyebrow and he immediately found a response.

“Broom closet was a crap idea and I will find much more suitable accommodation next time,” he told her, smirking slightly. “So, am I forgiven?”

She stopped and pretended to ponder his words with serious thought, but the truth was she had already forgiven him. Now, she was simply testing him and thoroughly enjoying having him wrapped around her little finger. It suddenly occurred to her that it was always been the other way around before.

“Fine. Apology accepted,” she said and continued marching on.

“So, we’re good?” he asked hesitantly, not sure what to make of her answer.

The sudden lack of confidence in his posture and face made her heart melt. “Of course,” she told him, her face softening a little.

He smiled in return and took her hand in his. She let him, but then her eyes narrowed down at him darkly.

“But if you ever try to scare me like that again, Draco Malfoy,” she threatened him in a very cold and very final voice. “I will hex you to hell and back, do you understand?”

His custom devilish smirk appeared on his face and lifting his eyes to make sure no one else could see them, he pulled her closer and whispered. “From you, Granger, I wouldn’t expect anything less.”

Kissing her softly on the cheek, he then turned around and began his ascent back to the castle.

“Cheeky sod,” Hermione whispered to herself as she watched him leave, the corner of her lips slowly curving upwards.

* * * * *

Feedback is welcome! This piece hasn't been beta-read so if you noticed any spelling/grammar errors, let me know!
Seeking beta!

I've finished my first prompt for elyaeru, which eventually became a 2,000 word one-shot, and am in need of a beta-reader! It's a Draco/Hermione fic, rated PG-13.

I just need someone to check over my spelling and grammar for this one-shot... can anyone help me out?

I'm also working on dcrjsnider's prompt, which is a Rose/Scorpius one-shot, and have also been playing around with photoshop a lot. I can't believe how much I missed it! I'll post a bunch of icons soon from HBP, Twilight, Supernatural and possibly other things. :D

Halloween!

Job hunting: Available jobs seem to have decreased by 50% since the crisis and it's now been several days since I've last applied for a position. Tomorrow or Monday, I should finally hear back about the 3-month contract job I'm hoping to get and interviews for the uber important job won't be till the end of November now. That's twice already that interviews have been pushed back but I don't mind since it'll hopefully give me time to do the 3-month contract job in between....

Right, well Halloween is upon us and I have nothing planned for the day! Halloween isn't celebrated over here like it is in the US or the UK and since most of my friends are back in London, looks like I'm going to be staying at home. However, I do intend to celebrate with a bag of sweets and a couple of horror movies to watch with my brother. We've so far opted for The Strangers with Liv Tyler and perhaps an old school Halloween or Friday the 13th movie. I've also got hold of the old movie adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum, which scared the hell out of me as a kid!

In any case, I have a lot of time on my hands this weekend and decided to spend it doing creative stuff: so drabble/icon time!!

-Drabbles: send me a prompt and I'll write you a drabble (yes, I know I'm feeling generous tonight!) I write mostly HP, but if you have another fandom in mind, let me know and I'll give it a shot!
-Icons: I'll make anything! I recovered Photoshop a couple of weeks ago and have been playing around with it without actually posting anything. Give me a prompt, pic, movie, actor/actress and I'll make you some icons! :D

What are your plans for Halloween?
Blogging and... hobbits?!

Job hunting: I've been lazy on my job applications, but I've just sent off my CV for a 3-month contract job on a Roman sanctuary site. The lady I talked to on the phone was really nice and very helpful so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!

In the meantime, I have been reading like mad any sort of fantasy book I can get my hands on and decided to open a blog!!

Check it out here: frenchfantasygirl.blogspot.com

frenchfantasygirl.blogspot.com

frenchfantasygirl.blogspot.com

It's basically a bookclub of sorts where any fantasy fan can read books along with me and comment about the story, characters, writing style, etc. I quite interested in deciphering what makes a good story/book and what ruins them. I'm currently reading George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones. Ooooh and if anyone is considering buying books using Amazon, I would love you forever if you used the widget link on my blog page! :D

In other news: Guillermo Del Toro talks dwarves and dragons on making The Hobbit. I'm really excited about this movie and hope it won't stray too far from the LotR movies.

EDIT: New Lost promo season 5!!!

<lj-embed id="5" />

'Wolverine' at Comic Con!!

So apparently Hugh Jackman showed up at Comic Con yesterday and showed exclusive footage of the new Wolverine movie coming out next year... footage that includes Gambit!!

Here's a link to Hugh Jackman's intro.

No one was allowed to film the footage apparently, which sucks! But I really really hope that footage will be on internet sometime soon! I know some of you are currently at Comic Con, so if you saw the Fox panel, tell me all about it!! :D

Original Fic

This is my third entry for brigits_flame. The prompt was "Happiness is...". This is my take on it.

-

Claudia ripped open the letter, grasping the small white card inside. Rushing back over to her desk, she switched the desk light on and carefully read what was written.

”Happiness is the key."

Turning the card around in her hands, she searched for the rest of the message, but there was none. Those were the only four words her old friend had sent her to help with her research.

Professor Hillson was obviously becoming senile, Claudia thought, sitting back down in her office chair. How could that short message possibly help her – it just didn’t make any sense.

Tossing the card away, she looked down again at the scrolls of parchment carefully spread across her desk covered with sheets of white paper torn out from her notebook and scribbled all over. It had been three weeks already – three weeks since she had been given these scrolls by her friend, Thomas Brockmann, notable archaeologist for the prestigious Institute of Oriental Studies in Vienna. He had led an archaeological dig in the Sinai desert hoping to discover evidence of an ancient small settlement by the shore and instead had discovered several scrolls within a nearby rock-cut tomb, hidden within the mountain range and dating back to the Old Kingdom.

No one had expected any texts or scrolls to have survived from that period, after all the Old Kingdom was dated back to nearly 4,000 years ago. Yet there they were, sitting on Claudia’s desk after spending several weeks in a conservation lab.

“If only I could figure out what they mean,” Claudia said to herself out loud, looking through her notes again, slowly this time, as if something important might jump out at her.

The scrolls were covered from top to bottom in ancient hieroglyphs, yet nothing like anyone had ever seen before. Well-known Egyptologists had tried to decipher the hieroglyphs straight away, all impatient to discover the secrets it kept, but none had been able to make sense of it. The text seemed to be encoded – something that had never been seen before and that was why the scrolls had been sent to Claudia, cryptographer, at the University of Luxembourg and amateur archaeologist.

Sighing in frustration, Claudia stood up again, heading towards the small coffee machine outside of her office and poured herself another cup. She glanced down at her watch and cursed as she realised how late it was already. Her date with Adrien would have to wait.

Of all the ancient Egyptian epigraphers in the world, Professor Hillson was the only one who could help. He was the only one with any knowledge of cryptography and had spent his life searching for the legendary encoded ancient Egyptian texts, mentioned in several contemporary papyri. The encoded texts were supposed to hide the best kept secrets of the Egyptian state, but Hillson had never found even the slightest proof of their existence. The professor was much too old now to be part of the official investigation of the eight scrolls found in the Sinai, but Claudia had still sent him photocopies of the text, proof that he had been right all along, and also secretly hoped that he might help her decode them.

The phone suddenly rang and Claudia jumped in her seat, suddenly brought back to reality. She hesitated slightly before picking up the receiver.

“Hello?” a deep voice greeted her. “Claudia, is that you?”

Claudia smiled as she recognised the voice. “Hello, Thomas.”

“I wasn’t sure if you’d still be at your office at this hour,” he admitted, sounding pleased to have found her. “So, any word yet from the old man?”

“He has a name, Thomas,” Claudia said, with a hint of exasperation in her voice. “I received a note from him earlier this evening. ‘Happiness is the key’, does that mean anything to you?”

“No. Is that all it said?”

“Yes, there was nothing else. ‘Happiness is the key.’ That was it.”

“Sounds like something my shrink would say,” Thomas mused.

“No need for a therapist to know what’s wrong with your marriage,” Claudia told him with brutal honesty. “I mean what are you doing calling me at this hour? You’re supposed to be spending less time working and more time with your wife.”

“Working’s more fun,” Thomas mumbled down the phone and Claudia couldn’t help but smile at his words.

“By the way,” he suddenly added, his tone turning more serious. “Have you ever heard of something called the LeBeau foundation?”

Claudia froze at his words. “They’ve called you too.”

“Yeah.”

“I’ve never heard of them before, have you?”

“No. And I don’t like it,” Thomas said in a low voice. “Did they ask about the scrolls?”

“Yes,” Claudia admitted, picking up the small white card again in her hand and twirling it in her fingers. “They asked if they could see them and were pretty adamant about it, but I told them they couldn’t and didn’t tell them anything else. There’s nothing to say anyway, I simply can’t seem to decipher the texts and I was hoping Hillson would help but the card he sent me is just silly. How on earth could happiness be the -”

However, she stopped. The small card froze in her hand and she suddenly peered at the words again very closely.

“Happinness is the key.”

Claudia hadn’t seen it before but it was quite clear now; the word happiness had been misspelt - ‘happinness’. She hadn’t realised it before because of Hillson’s scrawny hand-writing, but now she was quite sure of it – the word had deliberately been misspelt. It simply couldn’t have been a mistake, after all Hillson was British and had been a professor at Cambridge University. Even in his old age, he would never make any spelling mistakes.

No, this specific word obviously meant something.

“Claudia?” Thomas called out from the other line. “Claudia? Are you still there?”

“Thomas, I’ll call you back,” she told him, her mind already reeling through the innumerable meanings to the word ‘happinness’. She hung up the phone before he could protest and quickly grabbed the notebook and pen again as she let her mind work out the rest.

Happinness: consonant – vowel – double consonant – vowel – double consonant – vowel – double consonant.

It was a code. Perhaps another code to break the first one, but she couldn’t be sure yet. Pulling the scrolls towards her whilst discarding all the other sheets of paper - her previous attempts at cracking the code – she began to work on the new code, trying to make sense of it among all the different hieroglyphs.

--

It was only when the sun had started creeping through the small windows of her office, several hours later, that Claudia stopped and put her pen down. Hillson’s word had not only helped her crack the ancient Egyptian code, but it was also a reference the ancient Egyptian god Hapy, personification of the Nile flood, bringer of all things good, and whose hieroglyphic name was numerously featured within the scrolls. Claudia had successfully managed to decipher the eight scrolls laid out in front of her and in time, with the help of the hierogylphs forming the deity’s name, Hapy, she had copied down the right hieroglyphs hidden within the multitude of others.

Switching off the desk light and leaning back against her chair, she picked up her notepad and began translating the text she had neatly copied down. Hieroglyphics were not her forté, but she was too excited to stop now and with the help of an old grammar book, she kept on going.

The text seemed to be a list. There were dates followed by events and as Claudia read through them, one by one, she suddenly realised that these were not just events – they were key historical facts. And not just from the Old Kingdom – the scrolls spoke of historical facts that stretched out to the Fall of the Roman Empire!

And that was only the first page.

Hastily flipping the notebook page over, Claudia glanced through the rest of the text, her strained eyes picking a random line within the next few pages. She translated it quickly and her face blanched.

It spoke of war – of a World War – the First one, to be exact.

Dropping the notebook on her desk as if it had burned her hand, Claudia caught her breath and turned to her office phone, quickly dialling Thomas Brockmann’s number.

“Thomas!” she cried out, realising the insanity of the situation. “Oh God, Thomas, you’re never going to believe this!”

-

CV and covering letter!

So I'm spending my time at home applying for jobs and I just spent most of the evening writing my CV and writing various cover letters.

First thing I noticed - my CV isn't very impressive... There's lots of education stuff but very little actual work (unless you count archaeological experience which is in a separate section). The covering letter, however, is the worst cause I really have to sell myself for jobs that I have little experience in (recording and drawing standing buildings, anyone?). Still, I really want this particular job because it sounds so interesting and the pay is good.

In any case, writing covering letters I found out today is freaking nerve-wracking!! I've never had a serious job before wheere I had to write these so f any of you have any tips or advice about writing them, do tell! :)

Some good news... chapter 14 of Here Without You is up here and chapter 15 is already planned out in my head!

I've finished all my work at the museum and have been home all day... pretty boring! I'm off to Paris tomorrow, hopefully for a week of hot, sunny weather during which I'll be lounging around in my garden, catching up on my reading.

I'm currently starting a trilogy called Millenium by Stieg Larsson - I was told it's quite popular world wide and a good page-turner for the summer. I also recently bought American Gods by Neil Gaiman and look forward to reading it (absolutely loved Stardust and Neverwhere!)

Anyway, my train's doesn't leave till late afternoon, so till then... anyone have interesting news/fanfic to share? Any fun memes going round LJ at the mo?

*looks around f-list with puppy eyes*

This is my second entry for brigits_flame July round. The prompt this time is "It hurts when I do this".

Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to comment last time :)

--

I love you, Sarah.

Our relationship had lasted six months.

Six blissful months and not a shadow of doubt, unhappiness or anger. I had spent six months waking up every day with a smile on my face and now I spent every night crying myself to sleep.

I felt like it was all my fault. After all, I was the one who had moved away – who had moved back home because I couldn’t afford to live in the city anymore. And home meant living several hours away from him, a plane flight away from him that neither of us could afford on a regular basis.

It’s not like I wasn’t ever coming back. I would have eventually. Nonetheless, everything had become complicated and uncertain – and that uncertainty drove him away. He couldn’t wait for me, it was too tough not knowing when we’d see each other again and so he broke it off.

I love you, but I can’t do this anymore.

He barely kept in touch.

I guess maybe it was too hard. I cried for a month and when I eventually found out he had moved on, I cried some more. I tried to move on as well; throw myself into work, meet some new people, keep myself occupied every single minute of every day so I wouldn’t have to think about him.

However, none of it mattered when I went to sleep at night. The memories of us always found a way to creep back into my mind. It wasn’t just the memories as well, it was the photos, the videos, the gifts I had received for my birthday and Christmas and the belongings he had left with me inadvertently.

I would look at them and they would bring back memories and feelings I thought I had forgotten. They would bring back the joy and the pain.

I can’t stand not being able to see you everyday like it used to be.

I haven’t heard from him in months, but I am still aware of the small details of his life through the gossip. What he does now doesn’t really matter to me anymore. The only thing I want to know is if he still thinks about me, if I still appear in his dreams – if he misses me like I miss him. I never ask though; it wouldn’t be right. No one knows that I still care.

I try not to give him much thought, but every now and then, I happen to open the wrong file on my computer or I look inside the wrong drawer of my dresser, and there they are – the memories of him and us.

I find myself staring at the photos, smiling to myself as I remember our holiday at the beach. I can’t help but watch the videos of us together, happy and giggling like idiots. I still inhale the t-shirt he once left behind even if the scent of his aftershave has disappeared long ago.

Simple things that make my heart ache and bring tears to my eyes – and even though I know the agony that will follow if I let myself be caught up in the memories, I still won’t get rid of them. I still keep everything because that’s all I have left now.

It hurts when I let myself remember – it hurts like hell. And yet, I still won’t let him go.

I love you, Sarah, but it’s just too damn hard.

--

I have finally upgraded my LJ to a paid account after winning £15 today from helping out my uni, YAYZ!!!!

Take a look at my new layout and my new icons!!! I can finally use all the icons I'd been saving for this occasion - including Doctor Who (Rose/doctor), X-Men (gorgeous Rogue/Gambit icons I've been dying to use) and more!!! Most of them I lost when my laptop was stolen, but I've found a few again since and intend on getting more. Does anyone have links to Slytherin icons?

Problem is - I have so many icons now, I don't know which one to use! *g*

Right, back to writing chapter 14 of HWY. I'll hopefully be posting it this weekend :D

This is my first entry for brigits_flame July round. The prompt is "heavy".

--

“That one.”

My mother took one look at the menu and sighed. “Darling, we’ve just had two large course meals. Are you sure you want to order such a heavy dessert?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” I retorted, trying to catch the waiter’s attention. “It’s New Year’s Eve and I want to make the most of it since I’m not out partying with my friends. You insisted that we go out for a family meal at the restaurant, so at least let me order what I want!”

As much as I wanted to impose my choice of ordering the deliciously rich and moist Belgian dark chocolate cake, my mother was barely listening to me. Her eyes were busy scanning the menu, probably trying to figure out which dessert had the least calories. I felt like rolling my eyes at her, but instead I spotted the waiter making his way towards our table.

“Would you like to order desserts?” he asked, taking out his notepad.

“Yes,” I told him with a smile. “I’ll have a slice of the Belgian chocolate cake, please.”

“You know that’s really not what you need right now,” my mother whispered to me, although loud enough of course for the waiter to hear.

“Mum!” I could already feel my cheeks flushing red with embarrassment.

“I’m just saying,” she continued earnestly, “you should think about your diet!”

“I’m not on a diet,” I hissed through gritted teeth, praying no one else had heard her. However, judging from the smile on the waiter’s lips, it was clear that he had.

“And for you madam?” he asked, turning to my mother and saving me from further humiliation.

“Just a cup of tea, please – Earl Grey is fine.”

He nodded and left again, leaving me alone with my mother and her obsession about my weight.

“Can’t you give it a rest?” I asked her, annoyed. “It’s New Year’s Eve!”

“Yes, but it’s such a heavy dessert, dear, and we’ve eaten so much already,” she repeated, drinking the last of her wine. “Don’t come and complain to me when you don’t fit in your new pair of jeans anymore.”

This time I did roll my eyes. I remained silent, deciding it was best to just wait for my dessert to arrive. The waiter finally reappeared and placed a small plate with the slice of cake on the table and a cup of tea for my mother. Seeing the large slice of chocolate cake in front of me, I couldn’t help but salivate with anticipation.

“Enjoy,” the waiter told us, winking at me before heading off again.

I picked up my dessert fork and looked down at the dark chocolate cake, not quite knowing where to start. My mother watched me from across the table blowing on her tea before taking a small sip.

I finally decided to stick my fork at the tip of the slice and watched as the creamy middle layer of melted dark chocolate oozed out from the sides. It looked absolutely delicious and as I put the fork to my mouth, it tasted like heaven.

Watching my face light up as I enjoyed every second of my dessert, my mother put down her cup of tea, her eyes suddenly fixed on the cake.

“Can I try some, dear?”

--

Meet my mother everyone... Thanks for reading my first entry! :)

Too hot to sleep!!

Is anyone else in London enjoying the hot weather? I'm loving it, but now that it's nearly bedtime, grrr. I walked back from the museum today all the way to Camden and I thought I was going to die from the heat. It's the only time I go out in the sun really, so I try to make the most of it. My room is like a furnace though at the moment and opening the window doesn't seem to help. I guess having the computer on doesn't help either... I really need to go buy a fan before we get hit by a massive heatwave!

It's funny because the museum basement is very cool, sometimes even cold so I have to bring a hoodie or sweater to keep warm. I'm going to be there until mid-july so if anyone comes by the Museum of London before then, let me know!!
